ABOUT
I kept seeing the same gap in three different jobs.
WHERE I CAME FROM
Three industries, one pattern
I worked construction before this, coordinating subcontractors on job sites. I once watched a client’s callback request sit on a notepad in the site office for four days because nobody owned checking it. Later I worked in real estate, showing properties and following up leads. Buyers who asked good questions at an open house would sometimes never hear from us again, not because anyone decided not to call, but because no one was assigned to. Before that I worked in sales, on the phone every day. Half the leads I was given had no record of when they first got in touch or whether anyone had followed up. Three industries, three kinds of business, the same missing piece each time.
WHAT I KEPT SEEING
The work was rarely the problem
None of those businesses were bad at the actual work. The construction crews built well. The agents knew the market. The sales team could sell. What was missing was not skill, it was the plumbing underneath the skill: the part that catches an enquiry the moment it arrives, keeps it somewhere everyone can see, and reminds someone to follow up before it goes cold. Without that, the work happens in a kind of fog. A phone rings and nobody is sure whose job it is to answer. A message sits in a personal inbox that only one person checks. A promising lead gets a great first conversation and then falls off a cliff because the person who talked to them went on holiday and nobody else knew the conversation existed. I watched this happen again and again, in three industries with almost nothing else in common, which is what convinced me it was not specific to any one of them. It is a pattern that shows up anywhere a business grows past what one person can hold in their head. Everybody was too busy doing the work to step back and build the small system that would have caught the gap. That is not a criticism. It is genuinely hard to fix your own plumbing while you are the one running the water through it.
“The work was almost never the problem. The gaps around the work were.”
WHY I BUILD THIS
Fixable, and finally affordable
Gaps like these are fixable, and they do not need a big system to fix them. A missed call needs to be caught. A lead needs to be logged somewhere everyone can see. A quiet enquiry needs a nudge a few days later. None of this is complicated in principle, it is just tedious to build by hand and easy to keep putting off. What changed recently is that the tools to build this kind of thing well got cheap and genuinely good. A few years ago, doing this properly meant hiring someone or building custom software, neither of which made sense for a small business. Now one person can build it properly, at a price that makes sense. That is why this exists now, not five years ago.
HOW I WORK
One person, written down first
It’s just me. You talk directly to the person who builds it, not a salesperson or an account manager. Before anything starts, you get a written scope: what I’m building, what it costs, how long it takes. Nothing begins until you have said yes to that. Everything I build goes in your name, your domain, your accounts, so it stays yours regardless of what happens with me.
WHERE I AM
Japan, remote, new
I am based in Japan and work remotely with English-speaking clients. This business is new. I do not have a long client list or years of results to point to yet, only the pattern I kept seeing and a clear idea of how to fix it.
